A **group** is simply a name and description for an ensemble — "Chancel Choir," "Youth Choir," "Handbell Choir," "Brass Quintet," and so on. Groups themselves don't hold a roster of members; they exist so you can assign *who* performs an item without retyping the ensemble's name every time.

## Managing groups

Create, rename, or delete groups from **Groups** in the sidebar. A group can be assigned to any [service item](/docs/planning/services#service-items), [performance item](/docs/planning/performances#performance-items), or [template item](/docs/planning/templates#template-items).

## Deleting a group

Deleting a group doesn't delete the services, performances, or templates that reference it — their items simply lose that group assignment.
