title: Services
description: Plan a dated worship order — an ordered list of items, each optionally linked to a piece in your library and a performing group.
---

A **service** is a dated worship order — a title, a date, and an ordered list of items. Click **Plan a service** on the Services page, enter a title and date, then choose whether to start from a [template](/docs/planning/templates) or build the order of service manually. The rest of the fields — liturgical season, occasion, theme, scripture readings, notes — are filled in afterward from the service's own page.

## Browsing your services

The **Services** page lists every service as a card showing its date and full order of service, so you can scan what music is planned across services without opening each one. Search filters by title, occasion, liturgical season, theme, and any piece or custom title in the order of service.

## Service fields

Title, service date, liturgical season, occasion, theme/sermon title, scripture readings, and notes. Click **Edit details** on the Details card of the service's own page to change any of these in place — there's no separate edit page.

## Importing details from a bulletin

Instead of typing in the scripture readings and theme by hand, use **Import details from bulletin** on an existing service's page to upload a PDF or Word (.docx) bulletin — Church Music Locker reads its text in the background to fill those two fields in for you to review. This is only available once a service has already been created (not while creating one), never touches the order of service itself, and overwrites any scripture readings/theme already filled in, so it's confirmed before it runs. The original bulletin file is kept and can be viewed from the service's page afterward.

## Service items

Each item in a service's order has:

| Field | Notes |
| --- | --- |
| Role | Free text — e.g. "Prelude", "Anthem", "Offertory". |
| Piece or custom title | Link an existing piece from your library, create a new library piece without leaving the service, or enter a one-off title with no library link. |
| Group | Optionally assign a [group](/docs/planning/groups) — e.g. "Chancel Choir" — to perform the item. |

Drag items to reorder the service; the order is what prints or displays as the worship order.

## Starting from a template

When planning a service, choosing a template of kind "service" instead of "Create manually" seeds its items with the template's predefined roles and default groups, ready for you to fill in pieces and details.

## Deleting a service

Deleting a service removes its items but leaves any linked pieces untouched in your library.
