title: Templates
description: Reusable ordered slot lists — a role and default group per slot — for seeding a brand-new service or performance in one step.
---

A **template** is a reusable, ordered list of slots for either a service or a performance — each slot has a **role** and an optional default **group**, but no piece (a template describes the *shape* of an order, not a specific program). Templates aren't in the main sidebar; reach them from the **Services** or **Performances** page.

## Template kinds

A template is created as either kind `service` or kind `performance`, matching where it can be applied.

## Template fields

Name and kind.

## Template items

Each slot (template item) has a role, an optional default group, and notes — reorderable by drag.

## Applying a template

When creating a new service or performance, apply a template to seed its items with the template's slots — each slot's role and default group carry over, ready for you to attach pieces and fill in the rest. Applying a template doesn't link the new service/performance back to it; edit the result freely without affecting the template.

## Deleting a template

Deleting a template doesn't affect any service or performance already created from it.
